MUST SEE. The Northern lights in Iceland are best to see anytime between September and April, so that you can fully take in the beauty of the lights. I booked my trip for mid October and it was the best trip I have ever been on. Upon my arrival in Iceland, I traveled the country for 2 days before heading flying into Reykjavik, Iceland.
Once I arrived in Reykjavik, I was instantly welcomed by other guest who were also visiting for the northern lights. In addition, we were welcomed by our wonderful tour guide, Jerry, who showed us around the entire trip. Instantly, by seeing the scenery in Reykjavik I understood why it was referred to as “the greenest city on Earth”. The whole area was entirely covered in greenery. We spent the day sight seeing and preparing ourselves for the day to follow.
My second day in Reykjavik was the day we were going to travel to see the northern lights. Before our departure, we spent the day visiting popular locations waiting for the sun to set. Once the sun began to set, we set off for our one hour journey to see the northern lights. Let me just say now, if you haven’t’ yet booked your trip, you need to now before you continue reading.

The northern lights also known as the “aurora borealis”, were the most spectacular thing I have ever seen. Just being out in the open and being able to see such a beautiful occurrence in the sky was breathtaking. We spent hours just staring at the sky and taking as many photos as we could before we had to travel back to our hotel. The fact that I was able to see the northern lights for my own eyes, and no longer through photographs, is something I’ll never forget.
